smoker rack: review

the smoker rack system was not an extremely hard project but it did require some money on my part which even if you don’t pay for it yourself in engineering in general you almost always have to work within the confines of price. it would be wonderful if we could the strongest and longest lasting materials in everything we make but the fact of the matter is that things cost money and the better the material the higher the cost. this fact was a very large factor in this project, if I were not limited by money I would have used steel L-channel for my tack holder system I also would have used tempered weathered hardened steel sheeting to make my grill grates which would have been much stronger and lighter than normal steel plating. the main thing that the confines of price make difficult is the concept of over engineering, which is the process of building something to withstand much more than it needs to in case of poor aging, misuse, or an error on the engineers part. when you are limited by money you are forced to by materials that are much cheaper and less strong the skill all great engineers must posses is the ability to buy just the right materials to last under stress but yet not break the bank. with this project even though i would have liked to use nicer materials the best solution to price is to use grill paint it will make your project much more resistant to heat and warp a whole lot less. because of the elements that this work will be exposed to planing something like this isn’t for beginners. this is a fairly easy project but you must plan everything out very well before you drill holes in a smoker.
