Trans AM Fire Bird Coin: Reflection

over the course of last week i planned and worked on this project and was unable to finish last week do to lack of access to the shop i work. now finally i did get a chance to do my project. although I did get some cool results in the end I was unable to complete the project due to an error with the computer’s software. Although this result is less fun than having a cool final product it is a good teachable moment for people who plan to work on projects where they have to be more creative and inventive. some people say failure is a part of life but while doing these projects I’ve learned that it’s not really a failure if you learn from it. although all i really learned from this is that we need software for our laser engraver. even though this project didn’t go the way i planned it showed me how cool of a result you can get when using tape to add color to your laser engraving. it took me many different attempts with a few different methods but the big thing i learned was that it is best to use a picture that you can make into a vector file because raster engraving does not work well for doing this job on acrylic. when you try to raster engrave around the tape it leaves to much scoring marks behind but if you cut lines out of the tape and remove the excess it should look rely good. the only issue with this method is that you can only cut closed shapes and you may have to clean some things up with a razor blade if you have a more detailed design.
