Trans Am Firebird Coin: Plan

this week I will be working on a more personal, and much more inventive project. to give you a more in depth understanding of this project I am going to what I mean by Trans Am Firebird coin. in the steering wheel of every new Trans Am there is a circular firebird symbol glued into the center, the Trans Am owned by my family is older and the coin has fallen out. for this project I will be creating a replacement which will have to be in color as the wheel is black so a simple laser engraved design on acrylic would be nearly impossible to see against the background. rather than cut a cheaper looking coin out of wood I will be experimenting with a method that I cannot find much about others using, I will laser cut colored tape on top of a piece of acrylic.
I will not be going over the exact process of laser cutting in detail as I have done so in last weeks posts, instead I will explain the method I plan to use to cut the tape and the acrylic. to keep the image centered on the acrylic coin I will have to cut both at the same time. as to not cut through the acrylic while cutting the tap I plan on setting the laser to engrave instead of cut and just cut the actual acrylic coin out.

This will be a more complicated project as I have not done anything similar before and the surface will not be level the whole way through. I will be going over any complications i find in my reflection.
