Laser Engraved Phone Case: Project Reflection

I must apologize again for how late this reflection post is but due to weather and an overcrowded schedule I will have a few extra posts this week

The image below is the final product of last weeks project, the laser engraved phone case. The main process I used for this project can be found in my previous post “Lase Engraved Phone Case: Plan”, and although I will be reviewing some of the process the previous should be reviewed to understand this post.

This project is a very good example of why you should always know what you are engraving or cutting on even though it turned out very well-a happy accident is still an accident. While I knew from experience that a company who manufactures phone cases would not use flammable or toxic materials I was unaware that under the protective outer layer and the black and white inner layers was a sort of cork material. When engraving phone cases as while as blocks of wood or sheets of acrylic the risk of accidentally cutting into something dangerous is minimal, however when you are engraving on more complicated items such as electronics it is best to do research and find how others fared on similar projects. Another issue I ran into and feel I should address for readers who are knew to using a laser engraver is that you should always refocus your laser when starting a knew piece, not doing so can result in one of three things: if your laser is to far from the material it will not cut, if the laser is slightly out of line your cut can be off or look messy, and if your laser is to close to the material it is possible to accidentally cut through your piece or leave scorch marks.

over all this is a fairly simple project and a great beginner project with a very cool result.
