ch. 1; reflection

I had a very mixed experience while reading this chapter, because of my own bias about textbooks and the way that this chapter broke that bias. as a student there are some things you come to accept and expect when reading textbooks mainly that you will be bored. this expectation negative as it may be, is nothing to with the people who write textbooks and everything to do with what a textbook is, which is a medium for delivering factual information to a student. this usually leads to textbooks being listed out facts, methods for solving problems, or long drawn out stories most people don’t like to here.the author of this textbook managed to take the information he needed to deliver and give it in an entertaining and informal manor. Jill Walker (the author of the textbook) manages to break the formal, slow, and boring norm for textbooks and creates a very easy to read book, so far. I hope that the ease of reading that this chapter gives is a theme through the book and not just due to the fact that the chapters topic is relatable, because it is about seeing ourselves through technology. while the chapter sets a good tone for the rest of the textbook it is hard for me to ignore the fact that it is about technology which when you are writing for a group of college students is easy to draw readers in. only time will tell if this textbook is a great tool for learning or just another boring list of facts with a good first chapter. one thing is for sure, if this book continues to give its information in such an informal and relatable manor I will have no trouble reading through its chapters
